J.W. Hulme Transitions Manufacturing to Softline Brand Partners
According to a Leather International report, heritage leather goods maker J.W. Hulme announced it will cease in-house production after more than a century in St. Paul, Minnesota, selling its factory operations to Softline Brand Partners.
The decision follows years of financial strain despite efforts to modernize equipment and expand contract manufacturing. J.W. Hulme’s leadership cited sustainability and scalability as key factors behind the move, with Softline positioned to provide both domestic and international production options that preserve the brand’s commitment to quality.
As part of the transition, around thirty J.W. Hulme employees were offered interviews with Softline. The company’s CEO, Claire Powell, emphasized that partnering with Softline would allow J.W. Hulme to continue delivering heirloom-quality leather and canvas goods while adapting to modern supply chain demands.
Adam Blitzer, owner of Softline Brand Partners, continues to champion a balanced approach to manufacturing—combining U.S.-based craftsmanship with efficient, scalable global production. Softline’s expertise allows legacy brands like J.W. Hulme to evolve without compromising on heritage or quality.
